Celebrating Acts of Kindness is Kind of Awesome

KIND AWESOME
The world’s problems can seem overwhelming to us at times. But how about helping people on an individual basis? That’s something anyone can do. Plus there’s the added benefit of feeling good after the fact. It’s the secret sauce of kindness and an important lesson for kids. Arguably, one of the most important life hacks they’ll ever learn.

I am of the belief that acts of kindness are built into humanity’s DNA. Being connected with one another creates new possibilities, strengthens love’s power and opens the door to a brighter future for all. It’s the little moments in life—much like the ripple effect of a stone tossed in a pond. We are more than just ourselves in this world. Inspiration flourishes by recognizing and celebrating kindness every day. Therefore, parents modeling kindness for their kids to emulate makes for a better world. At least that’s the theory, right?

I’ve tried emphasizing sharing with my children. It’s a hit and miss proposition but for the most part I think my kids get it. But kindness is a next level type endeavor to impart. During the holiday season, we try to promote kindness by donating toys and clothes to those in need. Kids can relate to other children in a tangible way. The thought of a holiday season without warm clothing and toys instills a sense of urgency in their effort to help kids. Yet “big picture” type kindness still needs to be pointed out. Luckily, every day interaction in the world at large provides numerous examples.

I was fortunate enough to be asked to partner with Life of Dad and KIND Snacks to celebrate acts of kindness.

I was given #kindawesome cards and digital cards to reward acts of kindness via a pack of KIND Snack bars. I loved the simple yet effective way of recognizing goodness in the world. It was a useful tool as well to point out to my children that you don’t have to be a superhero to save the day. For example, Peter, a childhood friend of mine just made some waves in the local news. He found an envelope full of cash that was a wedding present. He didn’t have much information to go on except the couple’s names. But in the age of internet search he was able to narrow down the newly wed couple in the local area. He contacted the couple via Facebook and after some trial and error was able to return their wedding cash. Consequently, I reached out to him and sent him a pack of KIND Snack bars. Paying it forward matters.

You can add to the conversation about kindness and possibly win some cool prizes from KIND Snacks via the upcoming Twitter Party.
