The Nintendo Switch has been unveiled. Known for months by its code name, Nintendo NX, the new gaming device is a fusion of a handheld and tv-connected console. Arriving in March 2017, the eagerly anticipated system strongly matches up with the rumors surrounding the device. In a nutshell, the Nintendo Switch is a handheld system, a gaming tablet and a dockable console in one.

On the surface, the Nintendo Switch seems to be a handheld, a convertible tablet and a follow-up console to the Wii U. Yet there’s also an emphasis on multiplayer gaming, specifically with others sharing the same space.
Based on the video and Nintendo press release, here’s a breakdown of what’s known:
- Two controllers called Joy-Cons add onto the tablet to turn it into a Nintendo Wii U-like game pad.
- It’s portable larger than a 3DS.
- The controllers can detach.
- It has a kickstand turning into a tabletop game system.
- Each Joy-Con controller can act as its own controller. It can be used for two-player games.
- The Joy-Con controllers also slide into a Joy-Con Grip accessory to turn into a full stand-alone controller.
- A full controller called the Nintendo Switch Pro can be used.
- Docking it to the Nintendo Switch Dock turns into a TV-connected console.
- The Switch looks like a completely new platform with small pop-in cartridges.
- Nvidia mentions it will be supplying the chips inside.
- Nintendo has announced numerous publishers for Switch games including Ubisoft, Konami, EA, Capcom, Bethesda and Epic among others.
The one question we’d love answered is what is the battery life for the Nintendo Switch? That could ultimately be the deciding factor for gamers.
