The Princess Bride Remake? Inconceivable!

The Princess Bride falls into the realm of beloved comedy classic movie. Fans from all over the planet still quote comedic gems from the 1987 film. Considering the backlash from moviegoers, it’s difficult, nay, inconceivable, to comprehend the reasoning for even considering a remake.

The uproar about The Princess Bride began after Sony Pictures Entertainment chief executive Tony Vinciquerra mentioned the idea of a reboot to Variety in a profile on the film’s executive producer, Norman Lear.

As for the original cast’s sentiments?

Here’s Cary Elwes, who played the movie’s hero, Westley, response on Twitter:

Then again, Hollywood has a history of going back to the well to reboot movies which can be shown to a new generation of moviegoers. The music industry does it, so too the automobile industry. Even the refined, artistic world of the theater is not immune to reboots. William Shakespeare’s Hamlet has been revived countless times year after year. It’s a money maker and in business, one’s goal is to make money.

Perhaps a reboot of The Princess Bride will result in diverse casting choices and a new setting that will be vastly different from the original. Yet certain movies, much like The Godfather and yes, arguably, The Princess Bride, should be off limits. More often than not, reboots are both an artistic and a financial disaster; especially when the original films have become so deeply entrenched in pop culture on the same level as religious dogma.

We here at CuteMonster HQ think it’s a terrible idea. What do you think?
