The Muppet Show will start streaming exclusively Friday, February 19, 2021 on Disney +. All five seasons will be included. Why is this noteworthy? Seasons four and five have never previously been released on home entertainment. Having grown up watching the original series on network television, we at CuteMonster HQ are elated to share the magic with the next generation.
What is The Muppet Show? Originally premiering in 1976, it was a variety show for all ages that blended original songs, sketch comedy, and guest stars. It featured fan-favorite muppets such as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, the Swedish Chef, and more. It attracted countless Hollywood and Music industry’s biggest stars at the time including luminaries such as Mark Hamill, Elton John, Liza Minelli, Julie Andrews, Diana Ross and Gene Kelly.
Disney chose to promote the return of “Muppet Show” with a “statement” from host and producer Kermit.
“It’s going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more,” he said in a press release. “Today, I’m proud to say: ‘It’s time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!’ And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony, I can only add: ‘Sorry, guys, but….here we go again.”
