Myself & I, a recent Best Local Talent horror short film winner at the Fall 2025 Poconos Horror Fest, delves into a difficult internal struggle. Filmed in Pennsylvania, co-directors M.K. Scanlon and Alisha Yi manifest the psychological conflict in the form of a female college student on the precipice of graduation.
How’s the story?
Hannah is a senior college student fast approaching graduation. Like most students, she’s struggling with the profound question of what’s in store for her life as an adult. On a deeper level, Hannah’s figuring out her identity.
A job she desired is given to an obnoxious male friend based on pure nepotism triggering an awakening of sorts in Hannah. She begins to witness a version of herself that’s driven by cut-throat ambition developing into relentless voices and physical appearances urging Hannah to take decisive action. The tension elevates as these episodes result in pivotal moments.
The pacing keeps the narrative moving along nicely. Clever editing also amplifies Hannah’s disorienting internal struggle.
Final Thoughts
Writer M.K. Scanlon’s script weaves an authentic characterization of the struggle an individual could endure in discovering who they will become. Much like an origin story, the outcome can go either way based on events that occur in one’s journey.
Sidney Wolf gives a vulnerable performance as Hannah that resonates. Dimitra Georgeoutsous as Mae plays a convincing self-less best friend. Kieran Bellow exudes arrogance as the silver-spoon Dylan.
