Being immersed in the emotional tempest of a presidential election year, it can be difficult to acknowledge there are still good people making a difference in the world. Yet if one removes the countless layers of vitriol, one will discover countless examples of human kindness. Such is the case with an organization called E-Nable. They describe themselves as “a global network of digital humanitarians who are using 3D printing to create free (and low cost to produce) hands and arms for those born without fingers, or who have lost them due to war, disease or accident.” We’d call them heroes.
It’s difficult to imagine life without the use of one’s hands. Especially if the life in question is that of a child. Through innovative thinking and technological breakthroughs, E-Nable has found a way to provide access to functional 3D printed hands to children worldwide. A large part of their success to date has been building a thriving online community relatively free from politics, race, religion and a myriad of other typical barriers to human interaction. The greater good emerges as a top priority. Love wins.
Here’s a video titled “Giving the World a Helping Hand” that details the history of the E-Nable project.
