As a child, I was fascinated with motorcycles. The source of my interest could be traced to a daredevil named Evil Knievel. He engaged in amazingly wild motorcycle stunts jumping over countless numbers of cars, fountains, through walls of flames, and more. The man broke just about every bone in his body in his career and yet he was remarkably resilient. I remember loving the associated toys too. Particularly a motorcycle that you cranked up to speed then released with reckless abandon. There wasn’t much in the way of actually controlling the bike, but at least you could set up a stunt ahead of time, point the bike in the right direction, and hope it would work. Fast forward to the present, Wicked Cool Toys sent me an RC motorcycle named Xtreme Cycle Moto-Cam to review.
What’s included with the RC Motorcycle?
The Xtreme Cycle Moto-Cam is an RC motorcycle that has a GoPro type helmet-cam on the rider allowing you to capture video of your RC bike’s adventures. The set includes a bike, RC controller, batteries, USB cord, 4GB micro SD card, a ramp, and assorted decorative stickers. The helmet cam is controlled via a button on the RC controller. You can record up to an hour of 30FPS 640×480 VGA Resolution video. You can expect about 30 minutes of play time when the bike’s battery is fully charged.
Is the Xtreme Cycle Moto-Cam easy to use?
The bike includes gyro stabilization to help keep it upright while in use. That being said, don’t expect to just immediately pick up the RC controller and drive the bike proficiently. You’ll need a wide open space. Steering takes practice, especially turns. My own elementary school aged kids initially were frustrated by the sensitivity required to navigate the bike. Yet with some patience, they got the hang of it and were soon setting up stunts with the ramp that rivaled my own toy motorcycle stunts from years ago. The nostalgia ran deep.
Overall Grade: B+
Recommended for ages 8 and up.
Pros: High Fun Factor. Video Cam is a neat feature. Bike can ride on a variety of terrains. Well built.
Cons: Learning Curve for steering can be frustrating. Video quality from helmet cam is mediocre.
The Xtreme Cycle Moto Cam retails for $79.99 You can find it at Amazon.
