I am Batman

I am Batman
“I am Batman” are the words that strike fear in criminal hearts. They belong to the Dark Knight– a superhero possessing no super powers other than determination, intellect, physical training, and courage. I am Batman is also the title of a wonderful kid’s book by author Brad Meltzer and illustrator Christopher Eliopoulos.

I am Batman coverFull disclosure, I am a lifelong fan of the Dark Knight. Batman’s ability to overcome the odds against often more powerful adversaries, stems from his meticulous preparation. His brooding nature, fueled by the traumatic death of his parents during his childhood, defines him as a deeply flawed but unquestionably relatable human being. Any one of us could have be Batman. Granted the enormous wealth and access to the best of everything certainly helps. But that’s the pure fantasy aspect of this hero. The hard work and dedication to become something more, a selfless person, a protector of the vulnerable, speaks volumes about building one’s character.

What’s special about I am Batman is the telling of Batman’s origin story from a kid perspective as well as including the contributions of the creators of the character. More times than not, creative works involve successful collaboration which helps give direction, focus and refinement to a project. Each contributor becomes a key piece of the puzzle. The book alludes to how our lives are deeply connected with others. Indeed, Bruce Wayne could only have become Batman with help along the way.

I am Batman heroes

The generation spanning appeal of I am Batman offers a compelling argument to add the book to your home collection. Thoughtful conversations about what it means to be a hero will always prove to be invaluable.

Quote from the movie The Dark Night

Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.
