A children’s book generally should not prompt one to think about topics such as collective bargaining and worker strikes. Yet that’s just what came to mind when reading CLICK, CLACK, MOO, Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin. A tale of cows who decide to halt milk production until their demands for electric blankets are met by Farmer Brown.
Dinosaur vs. The Potty

Potty training can be a turbulent time for kids and parents alike. The daily use of the potty becomes a battle of wills for most young children making the transition from diapers to the porcelain throne. Each day kids will simply put it off as long as possible in favor of continuing any fun activity they’re immersed in at the moment. Such is the premise of the children’s book Dinosaur vs. The Potty from author-illustrator Bob Shea.
Technology Changes but Capturing Memories Remains the Same

The holidays are officially over. The tree is gone where it once majestically stood and only a few glittering strands of tinsel on the rug remind you of the family and friends that help make all of those great holiday memories linger on. What better way to relive those memories for years to come than through “pictures.”
Tray Chaney talks about Fatherhood

Tray Chaney is a talented artist who’s first big break was landing the role of Poot from HBO’s critically acclaimed series “The Wire”. Tray also happens to be a writer and upcoming rap artist. His latest single titled “Fatherhood”, an inspired message for men to be responsible fathers, has struck a chord with men and women alike across the Social Media spectrum. Wishing is for Suckers

I’ve often wondered about the value of teaching children the practice of making wishes. In essence, a child is begging the universe to fulfill one of his desires whether or not he’s actually been proactive in the pursuit of his goal. it also removes all accountability since by the nature of a wish, there are no strings attached to the wish maker. To me, that’s a recipe for a lifetime of disappointment. In most cases, wishing is for suckers.
Game On – What does a video game culture mean for kids?

The video game entertainment industry has established a firm foothold in homes worldwide. A popular video game release can potentially reap staggering financial rewards for an entertainment software company at levels that eclipse even the most popular movie franchise. From its nascent days in the early 1970s as a primitive curiosity to the current 21st century myriad of phenomenal immersive experiences, the influence of video games on world culture has been unprecedented. Indeed, hundreds of studies have been written both pro and con about the developmental impact on children. And now with the advent of tablet computing, the pervasiveness of a video game oriented society will inevitably increase. As parents, how do we respond to these changes? And what does the future hold?

The Muppets (2011)

Upon first learning about the 2011 release of The Muppets, I was struck with mixed feelings of childlike joy and dread. Being given the chance as a parent to introduce my children to Jim Henson’s lovable band of characters appealed to me immensely. Yet Hollywood’s historical penchant for recycling beloved franchises based on profit motive rather than creative inspiration gave me pause. Would The Muppets, a musical comedy produced by Disney starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams, capture the magic of the original?
