Can you believe it’s been almost 6 years since Walt Disney Animation Studios’ animated blockbuster FROZEN debuted? And who could forget Elsa’s memorable song “Let it go” which gripped the world for nearly a year. The Academy Award-winning team behind the original movie has regrouped to produce a sequel, namely FROZEN 2. In addition, the original cast featuring Idina Menzel (Elsa), Kristin Bell (Anna), Jonathan Groff (Kristoff), and Josh Gad (Olaf) will reprise their roles. The newly released teaser trailer for the sequel presents a darker, more action-packed tone than the whimsical original film.

Admittedly, I did not read Roald Dahl’s original book version of The BFG. Other than the movie trailer, I had no inkling what the story would be about. Perhaps that particular tidbit was serendipitous. My colleagues for this particular review were two pint-sized versions of yours truly, namely my kids. One was thrilled at the prospect of seeing this film while the other likened viewing this movie to getting one’s teeth cleaned at the dentist. It was a tough sell but luckily after extolling the “cool factor” of Giants, my oldest was all in for the review.

If you’ve been a parent on this planet for the past 5 years you may have noticed the craze in the toy-to-life video games genre. Skylanders has made a huge impact and has prompted competition in the form of Disney Infinity and now the recently released LEGO Dimensions. In what arguably could be characterized as an over saturated market, the need to innovate takes on a heightened sense of urgency. Given that these play sets can be quite costly by design with the myriad of add-ons why can buy including additional characters, vehicles, and levels, the choice becomes more of an investment rather than an impulse purchase. The good folks from Activision and Disney sent CuteMonster starter packs to test out Skylanders Superchargers and Disney Infinity 3.0 respectively. As a longtime gamer now with kids of my own, I couldn’t wait to see who came out on top.

Having viewed several movie trailers for Disney Pixar’s “Brave” in the past few months, I had eagerly anticipated seeing the story with my children. Adding to expectations, Merida, the heroine of the movie, was heavily promoted as a defining departure from traditional Disney princess incarnations of the past. Preview press releases highlighted her fiery red unbridled hair, master of archery skills and her fiercely independent spirit The table was set to be swept away by a rollicking adventure story. Yet what unfolded in the movie theater revealed Disney Pixar’s “Brave” to have a different fate.

Movie Review: The Avengers


“The Avengers”, written and directed by Joss Whedon, kicks off what is shaping up to be the year of comic book hero movies. With The Amazing Spider-man and Batman (The Dark Knight Rises) slated for release in the next several months, the special effects artists will be showcasing a tour de force of visual wizardry. Make no mistake, story is important, but what really draws millions of moviegoers to the big screen are the eye-popping, ear exploding, thrill a minute action sequences. Having just attended a screening of “The Avengers” in 3D, I can confidently claim you will be witnessing one of the most entertaining visually compelling comic book movies ever made.
