Movie trailers are dropping like holiday bargains in December. The 1980s loom large in upcoming movies as the setting as well as being alluded to by modern days heroes. Wonder Woman 1984 picks up with our hero based years later after her debut during World War in 1918. Ghostbusters: Afterlife continues the franchise with a 21st century generation of kids who were related to the original 1980s Ghostbuster team. Building off the popularity of the Netflix series, Stranger Things, the movie aims to incorporate teenage high jinks along with the supernatural genre.

Ghostbusters 2016 Reboot Surprisingly Entertaining

When I first read about a new Ghostbusters movie being developed for release in 2016 I felt physically uneasy. Why would a movie studio chance ruining the beloved 1984 comedy classic? Shortly thereafter it was announced the Ghostbusters reboot would be an original story featuring four women instead of men in the lead roles. Fan reaction to the news was largely unfavorable. The movie seemed more of a publicity gimmick than an artistic endeavor. Despite the controversy, I made a concerted effort to reserve judgement until actually seeing the new film. Besides, Ghostbusters (2016) had a stellar cast of female comedy veterans.
First Trailer for Ghostbusters Reboot

The first official trailer for the reboot of Ghostbusters was released. There’s an abundance of special effects scenes as well as a tip of the hat to the beloved original movie. Yet that feeling of infectious zany joy one experienced watching the 1984 comedy classic seems noticeably absent. It’s still too early to cast judgement on the reboot since movie trailers are often quite different than the actual film. Hopefully this re-imaging of the Ghostbusters franchise will offer a compelling story.
