Years ago, kids didn’t have the option to play video games. Instead, they played with super hero action figures and let their imaginations run wild. In the present, these action figures have evolved more into collectibles – a way for older fans to express appreciation for the genre as works of art. Recognizing a financially lucrative trend, Marvel, DC and others have annually produced action figures reflecting fan favorites from comic books, television, and film. This year’s Fall and Winter DC Collectibles line up taps into Batman: The Animated Series and DC Icons.

Marvel Studios continues its production of Super Hero based movies with the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike its more mainstream characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man and Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy will be the first introduction for many to Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket.
