Star Wars fans literally span the globe in the hundreds of millions. They represent folks in just about every demographic imaginable. So when May the Fourth rolls around on the calendar, it’s more than a big deal, it’s a bonafide science fiction nerd celebration. Collectively, The Force has been strong in our lives at CuteMonster.com for generations. We thought’d it be fun to share a few ideas to celebrate what’s come to be known as Star Wars Day.
Kids love the idea of having a robot friend. And comic book nerds love technological wonders. The 21st century has transformed the world into what was once thought to be only science fiction. As we approach the year 2020, one can only imagine what the future holds.
The idea of a Robot as a mortal enemy to humanity has been featured in numerous works of science fiction. Yet with ground-breaking technological advances in the 21st century, science fiction has begun the transformation to reality. Boston Dynamics, a cutting edge robotics research company, creates a variety of robot prototypes. They range from big to small in size as well as animal-like or humanoid in design. A recently released video features our original robot overlord Atlas, the next generation humanoid robot. Atlas endures harsh physical treatment by its human handler. This does not bode well for the existence of humanity. Breakthroughs in artificial intelligence could produce sentient robots capable of revenge. Indeed, historians may recognize this video as the moment humans started the robot wars.
Disney released the first teaser trailer for the science fiction mystery movie “Tomorrowland”. The cast includes George Clooney, Britt Robertson, and Judy Greer. Written and directed by Oscar winner Brad Bird, the movie is slated for nationwide release on May 22, 2015. Get your popcorn ready.
Marvel Studios continues its production of Super Hero based movies with the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike its more mainstream characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man and Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy will be the first introduction for many to Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket. It’s hard to believe how quickly the Summer has flown by this year. For many kids, camp has ended or is coming to a close. Most blockbuster Summer movies have already been seen along with copious amounts of popcorn consumed. The majority of toy manufacturers won’t be releasing new toys until the Fall for the holiday season. It seems we’re collectively up to our ears in Summer doldrums. “Space, the final frontier…” Ever since I heard those words spoken by Captain Kirk via the television series Star Trek, I’ve been captivated by the idea of space travel. Consequently, I dreamed of becoming an Astronaut. Years later, having developed a dislike for airplane travel, I realized that space travel most likely was not a reasonable career pursuit. Nonetheless, I’ve still admired the courage of the brave men and women who undertake missions to explore the universe. What’s more, unlike the fictional Star Trek, space exploration is very much in its infancy. The adventure has just begun.
