At the time, one would have been ridiculed and mockingly branded a nerd. Revisiting the subject in the present reveals a shocking paradigm shift. Mainstream pop culture and nerd culture have become synonymous. The past 10 years arguably could be classified as the Golden Age of Comic Book Movies. I never imagined my boyhood heroes would so aptly be depicted on the big screen. In fact, the recently released Captain America: Civil War may represent the pinnacle of multi-superhero comic book movies.

2012 New York Comic Con Strikes a Chord


The 2012 New York Comic Con has beckoned the popular culture masses and they responded in droves. In my second year of coverage of the convention, my initial impression of the event was simply “whoa!” It was like an overwhelming palpable wave of energy had swept through the cavernous halls of the venerable Jacob Javits Convention Center. Music was blaring, cosplayers were out in force with intricately detailed costumes. as well as the endless hordes of vendors and exhibitors all working in concert to impart the attendees with an unforgettable experience.

My Spidey Sense had been tingling all night. Suddenly I leapt backward completing a humanly impossible acrobatic feat while landing hard against the wall. The floor where I last stood had been crushed to rubble. Slightly stunned from the impact, my eyes burned from the dust filled smoke as I attempted to get a glance at my attacker. “Focus Spidey.” I could barely make out his silhouette. “No, it can’t be. He was supposed to be dead.”
