Viral New Zealand PSA “Mistakes” Strikes a Chord Worldwide

Public Service Announcements, PSA for short, have always been well intentioned yet often come across as either too preachy or over the top in presentation. The desired effect of persuading the pubic into taking responsible actions results in a collective shrug of the shoulders. Life goes on along with millions of daily preventable bad decisions elevating the statistics of epic fails. Yet once in awhile a PSA comes along that literally makes us take pause. Created by the New Zealand Transport Agency, the ad, aptly tilted “Mistakes” has gone viral. Rightly so. Awakens even the coldest heart.
Awesome Vintage Wood Toy Cars

We love start-up stories like this. Vlad Dragusin’s biography on KickStarter states “I am an architect and designer living in Brooklyn, NY. I also became a dad a few years back, and toy design became my passion ever since.” The result of his labor of love? Wonderful vintage wood toy cars that evoke the classic lines of American vintage cars from the 1950s to 1960s. His company, Candylab Toys has already achieved its funding goal on Kickstarter, so production of MO-TO: Modern Vintage Toy Cars, will begin in the near future.
Top 5 Father’s Day Gifts for 2013

Father’s day is fast approaching. Unlike Mother’s Day which traditionally manifests into a day of pampering and gifts for Moms, Father’s Day usually encompasses a more subdued recognition of Dads. In fact, rather than a dad-centric celebration, Father’s day often entails a family outing such as a day at the park or a visit to the Zoo. As for gifts, Dads can expect to be inundated with inexpensive pre-packaged department store items (think Grooming kits) or perhaps the generic shirt and tie combo set. Quite frankly, fathers would rather have hugs from our children, a good meal, low stress, and some intimate time with our wives. Yet, if you must buy Father’s Day gifts, we’ve come up with a winning short list for 2013.

Jurassic Park in 3D Review

Do you remember the first time you saw an event movie as a kid? Not your run of the mill story but a genuine larger than life spectacle that transported you into a new realm of imagination. The type of movie that leaves a lasting impression in your heart and mind for the rest of your life. A cinematic phenomenon which not only defines generations but bridges them. Some obvious examples would be “Star Wars” in the 1970s and “E.T.” in the 1980s. Yet these same blockbusters lose their inherent awe inspiring qualities when presented to new viewers at home despite the HDTV behemoths electronics manufacturers are churning out. Certain movies were just meant to be experienced in a movie theater or not seen at all. Such is the case of the 20th Anniversary re-release of “Jurassic Park” in 3D.

Thanks to the digital media tools of the 21st century, older shows can be reconfigured as catalysts to promote creativity to an entirely new generation of children. PBS Digital Studios has led the way producing whimsical, imaginative and endearing music videos of “Mr. Rogers”, “Bob Ross”, and “Reading Rainbow”.
Review and Giveaway: TAGAMOTO Enforcer Road Set

At the 2013 NY Toy Fair, I had the opportunity to visit Innovation First International’s booth. I was treated to seeing the latest HEXBUG micro robot toys including the award winning HEXBUG Warriors Battling Robots Battle Station. Yet what really caught my attention was TAGAMOTO, a new series of interactive toy cars that respond to interchangeable codes placed on racetracks.
Parenting Experts Bribe Their Kids Too

As a parent, you attempt to respond appropriately to your children’s behavior. In a NY Times article titled “Train a Parent, Spare a Child” by Bruce Feller, the topic of modifying a child’s behavior without resorting to bribes is addressed by several Parenting experts. You may ask “Was there any consensus to be found in their opinions?” In short, no. In fact, some even condoned the occasional bribe. Go figure.
