If one wasn’t actually living the experience on a daily basis, being a parent could be construed as quite comical. We as parents collectively lose our minds tending to the growth and well being of little people. Sure there’s an abundance of rewarding moments overflowing with joy and laughter. But for the most part, it’s just plain hard work. Trying to impart this concept to child-free couples and singles alike usually results in blank stares or downright disbelief. The best advice I can offer to the uninitiated is simply “You’ll see.” In the meantime, perhaps a few comedy videos about parenting might be helpful.

Ridemakerz: A toy car company building great family memories

I was first contacted by RIDEMAKERZ, makers of custom designed toy cars kids can build, about a promotion to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. A generous portion of the proceeds from the sale of the radio controlled Chevrolet Corvette C6RS – Special Edition would go directly to help fund the cause. We reviewed the car and gave away one vehicle to a lucky CuteMonster.com reader. Late in October I received an invitation to attend the Grand Opening press event of the RIDEMAKERZ store-within-a-store debut at FAO Schwarz in New York City. Adding to the excitement was the chance to bring my whole family to build and keep our own RIDEMAKERZ rides. Clearly it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. Little did I realize the best surprise awaited us.

FlutterBye is designed to fly upwards and hover above the extended hand of a child as the flying fairy moves across an open room. In essence, FlutterBye had the potential to be a fantastic toy. I couldn’t wait to test it out.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mario the Magician

I first learned about Mario Marchese aka Mario the Magician in 2012. Kal Toth, a college buddy of mine who also happens to be a filmmaker told me about a short film he created entitled “Building Magic”. Based upon the successful response to the short, a 2013 Kickstarter campaign secured funding to extend “Building Magic” into a feature length film expected to be ready for the film festival circuit in early 2014. I had the opportunity to catch up with Mario in an interview that touches upon life, fatherhood, and magic.
